The UI of FM26 feels like a university project that started with enthusiasm but completely failed in execution. The issue isn’t that it’s still in beta or full of bugs — the real problem is that the logic behind it simply doesn’t fit a game like Football Manager. Who thought navigation through pop-ups was a good idea, seriously?

For years, we’ve had a well-structured interface that presented information through wide, clean tabs. Now everything is crammed into small, awkward tiles that don’t even fit the screen properly, with static pop-ups that can’t be moved, resized, or even closed properly. It’s a disastrous design choice. On top of that, after two years of development, this Unity-based UI is still riddled with basic design flaws that can’t be fixed in a couple of weeks.

For millions of players like me, the Tactics screen is one of the two most-visited sections in FM — and now it’s hidden under two different sections, being one of the tiniest panels within them. The attempt to patch this mess with a poorly designed bookmark system makes things even worse. When you look closely, you realize the tactics screen isn’t even a real tab anymore — it’s just an oversized pop-up. That’s genuinely shocking. Did people who never played FM design this interface?

Because of this poor implementation, many small but useful features have also disappeared. For example, you can no longer reduce the number of substitutes by clicking the mouse wheel. And while I could excuse that as a beta bug, there’s an even funnier one: when sorting the squad by position, instead of showing the starting eleven first and then the subs, the list now starts from substitute 15. Since you can’t reduce the number of subs on the squad screen due to the 15-player bench in friendlies, the substitutes are always listed at the top until you pick them.

For example, in my squad I have 24 eligible players while planning for my next match, which means I have 13 subs available. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue in FM, but in this version, since I can’t fill the 14th and 15th substitute slots, I always see their empty tiles on the right side of the squad list while planning my lineup. :D

If such a basic feature is already broken in the beta, that’s a clear sign this UI is both impractical and poorly structured. The Unity engine has huge potential for the series, but this interface is completely disconnected from what makes FM… FM. Whoever designed this UI should honestly be removed from the project, and we should never have to see this layout again next year.

I'm not gonna say "why is it so buggy you had 2 years" for UI because it’s painfully obvious that this UI has been pieced together through constant design reversals. Trying to blend the old visual language with this new fragmented system only made things worse. It’s genuinely terrible. Modernizing a UI shouldn’t mean betraying the core principles of the game. What we have now is a sleek-looking but deeply unusable interface — one that offers the worst user experience in the series and feels like it was made by someone who never truly understood Football Manager.
